You stand on the ground, held in place — that's gravity, but there's more to the story.
The Earth is big, the Earth is heavy, it pulls everything down toward its middle. And you pull the Earth right back, just a whole lot smaller.
The bigger the mass, the bigger the pull, the bigger the mass, the bigger the pull!
A pebble has a tiny pull, a mountain, a little more, the Earth has a pull you can feel, the sun holds the whole Earth in its arms.
And here's the strange part: spacetime is a sheet, and mass puts a dent in it. The Earth dents the sheet, you roll into the dent — that's gravity, that's it.
Einstein said it in nineteen-fifteen: spacetime curves around anything heavy.
The moon dents it a little, the Earth dents it more, the sun dents it way more, and a black hole dents it past the bottom — a dent so deep that even light rolls in and stays for good.
The bigger the mass, the bigger the pull, the bigger the mass, the bigger the pull!
You stand on the ground, the ground is dented, you're rolling toward the middle right now.
