Electromagnetism
Advanced companion to I'm Electromaggie, naming the real force directly for an older audience: electricity and magnetism are two faces of one force, unified by Maxwell's equations, where a changing electric field creates a magnetic field and a changing magnetic field creates an electric field, and light itself is that alternating pair. The whole EM spectrum (radio through gamma) is the same wave at different wavelengths. Electromagnetism is the second-strongest fundamental force, far stronger than gravity but shorter- ranged in practice due to charge cancellation. Uses a duet cadence between an Electric voice and a Magnetic voice.
[ELECTRIC] I am the push of charge on charge, positive and negative in a pull or flight. [MAGNETIC] I am the field around a moving charge, invisible force, invisible might. [ELECTRIC] Rub the balloon, static charge builds, electrons pile up on one single side. [MAGNETIC] Send that charge down a wire in motion and a magnetic field opens wide. [ELECTRIC] Maxwell wrote it down in four equations, electric and magnetic locked as one. [MAGNETIC] A changing magnetic field creates electric current, the circuit's work is done. [ELECTRIC] A changing electric field creates a magnetic ripple, the two chase each other in a wave. [MAGNETIC] Light itself is that chase, electric and magnetic fields, the wave that light gave. [ELECTRIC] Radio and microwave, infrared and visible, ultraviolet, x-ray, gamma too. [MAGNETIC] Every one of them is the same electromagnetic wave, only the wavelength is new. [ELECTRIC] I hold every atom's electrons in their cloud, I write every chemical bond. [MAGNETIC] I turn a compass needle north, I move a motor, I make a speaker respond. [ELECTRIC AND MAGNETIC] Second strongest of the four forces, weaker only than the strong force near, stronger than gravity by a billion billion billion billion, immense and clear. [ELECTRIC] Infinite range like gravity, but able to push away as well as pull. [MAGNETIC] Two charges alike repel, two unlike attract, the rule is never dull. [ELECTRIC AND MAGNETIC] Electric and magnetic, always were the same one force in disguise, one field splitting into two depending only on how fast the observer flies.
Key Concepts: Electricity and magnetism are two faces of one force, unified by Maxwell's equations | A changing electric field creates a magnetic field and vice versa; light is that alternating pair propagating together | The full electromagnetic spectrum (radio through gamma) is the same wave at different wavelengths | Electromagnetism is the second-strongest fundamental force, roughly a billion billion billion billion times stronger than gravity between two protons
Characters: none — advanced companion sung about the real force directly, paired with I'm Electromaggie, as a duet between an Electric voice and a Magnetic voice
Key Words: electromagnetism, Maxwell's equations, electromagnetic spectrum, magnetic field, electric field
Advanced companion note: This is the real-term companion to Electromaggie in electromaggie-intro.md, written for an older audience directly about electromagnetism rather than through the character.
