The Strong Force
Advanced companion to I'm Strongy, naming the real force directly for an older audience: the strong force is the strongest fundamental force but acts only across roughly a femtometer, binding quarks inside protons and neutrons via gluons (getting stronger, not weaker, as quarks separate, which is why free quarks are never observed) and binding protons and neutrons together in the nucleus as a residual effect that overcomes electromagnetic repulsion at short range. Uses a hard, confident cypher/boast cadence.
Strongest force in the entire universe, but only within a needle-thin range. One femtometer, roughly a proton's width, past that distance my grip goes strange. Inside a proton, three quarks bound together, gluons carry my force between. Pull two quarks apart and the pull gets stronger, the opposite of every force you've seen. Squeeze more energy into trying to separate them, and new quark pairs snap into place. Quarks never travel alone in nature, confinement locks them, no escape from the chase. Outside the proton, a residual echo reaches neighboring protons and neutrons near. That echo is the nuclear glue, binding the whole crowded nucleus here. Electromagnetism pushes every proton from every other proton it can find. The strong force overpowers that repulsion, at short range it rules unconfined. Move past a few femtometers though and my pull collapses fast and steep. Unlike gravity's endless reach, my whole force stays local, close, and deep. A hundred times stronger than electromagnetism at the range where the two compete. Trillions upon trillions of times stronger than gravity, too many zeroes to repeat. I confine the color charge of quarks, red, green, and blue combining to stay clear. Every free particle you touch is colorless, color charge never wanders out here. Strongest, shortest, holding quarks and holding nuclei both the same. Call me confinement, call me the glue, the strong force is my name.
Key Concepts: The strong force is the strongest fundamental force but acts only across roughly a femtometer | Gluons carry the strong force between quarks; the pull grows stronger as quarks separate, so free quarks are never observed (confinement) | The residual strong force binds protons and neutrons together in the nucleus, overcoming electromagnetic repulsion at short range | Color charge (red, green, blue) always combines to colorless in any observable particle
Characters: none — advanced companion sung about the real force directly, paired with I'm Strongy, in a hard cypher/boast cadence
Key Words: strong force, quark confinement, gluon, color charge, residual strong force
Advanced companion note: This is the real-term companion to Strongy in strongy-intro.md, written for an older audience directly about the strong force rather than through the character.
