The Dog and His Reflection
A musical retelling of Aesop's fable about a dog, a bone, and a reflection that wasn't what it seemed
A happy dog with a juicy bone Went trotting down the lane, Across the bridge above the brook, His tail wagged without refrain.
There was a dog. There was a bone. There was a bridge above a stream. Down in the water — ANOTHER dog! With a bone that looked supreme!
"That bone is bigger! Fatter! Round! I want THAT one instead!" He didn't know the dog below Was the reflection of his head.
He growled. He snapped. He lunged. He BIT -- The water OPENED WIDE. SPLASH! went his bone into the brook, It tumbled with the tide. The dog below? Vanished too -- No bone, no fight, no dog, no chew.
There was a dog. There was a bone. There was a bridge above a stream. Now there's a dog. With no bone. Over an empty stream.
