The Bigger the Load, the Bigger the Push

A kid pushes an empty wagon (one finger does it!), then a wagon stacked with rocks and a dog (whole-body shove!) to learn that force is the push or pull it takes to speed something up โ€” and a heavier load needs a bigger push to speed up the exact same amount.

My wagon's empty, light as a leaf, I gave one poke with one single finger, brief, It ZOOMED across the driveway, whoosh so fast, One tiny push and away it passed!

Then I loaded rocks in, five or six or more, Plus my dog jumped in and flopped on the floor, I poked it with one finger just the same, It didn't budge one inch, what a shame!

Force is the push, force is the pull, It's what you give something to make it move at all, A heavy wagon needs a heavier shove, To speed up the same as the light one, love!

So I planted both my feet and I grunted UNGH, I pushed with my shoulder, I pushed with my lungs, Whole body shoving, cheeks going red, And SLOWLY the heavy wagon finally sped!

Ten times the rocks means about ten times the push, To get it zooming the same, no shortcut, no rush, A light little wagon takes a light little poke, A heavy loaded wagon needs your whole body, no joke!

Force is the push, force is the pull, It's what you give something to make it move at all, The heavier the load, the bigger the shove, Bigger loads need bigger pushes, my little turtle dove!

Now picture an elephant trying to speed up and run, It needs a way bigger push than a mouse having fun, Bigger mass, bigger force, that's the physics today, Now go push something heavy and feel it the physics way!
