Long, long ago, before the sea, A whale's great-great-grandpa walked on land like you and me, Four legs clip-clopping on the shore, Then dove right in and swam for more!

Secret legs! Secret legs! Hiding deep inside a whale! Secret legs! Secret legs! Two tiny bones, no walking, just a tail!

Every year, the legs got small, Tucked inside, no use at all, Smaller, smaller, snug and tight, Until the legs just... disappeared from sight!

(Scientists find them, snug inside, Small bones drifting, side to side!)

A whale can't walk, a whale can't run, Its ancestors did, beneath that sun, Now the bones are small and few, A hip, a leg, a hint of what they used to do!
