Why Do We Hiccup?
A silly bouncy song about hiccups, the diaphragm muscle that twitches without warning, and the sneaky last HIC that always shows up
HIC!
Uh oh -- I did it again -- A little HIC inside my chest! I didn't ask, I didn't try, But here it comes -- can't take a rest!
Hiccup, hiccup, hiccup HIC! Hiccup, hiccup -- where'd you come from? Hiccup, hiccup, hiccup HIC! Tiny surprise inside my tum!
HIC!
Down below my lungs there sits A big flat muscle -- DIAPHRAGM! It pulls down slow when I breathe in, Pushes up to push it out again!
But sometimes -- WHOOPS -- it twitches QUICK! A sudden tug -- a sudden flick -- Air rushes UP -- the voice-doors SLAM -- And out comes...
HIC!
Hiccup, hiccup, hiccup HIC! Diaphragm doing a goofy kick! Hiccup, hiccup, hiccup HIC! Voice-doors closing -- click click click!
I tried to drink a glass of water, I tried to hold my breath and wait, I tried to count to ninety-eight, I tried to scare myself -- TOO LATE!
HIC!
They come in BUNCHES, never one -- Two, then three, then five, then ten! Then juuuuust when I think I'm DONE...
(thinks it's over) (big breath) (smiles)
HIC!
(...gotcha.)
